Are you Team Barbie or Team Oppenheimer, or Team Barbenheimer?
No matter where you stand, the fact is that both Barbie and Oppenheimer have become cultural icons of the 21st century, receiving mass critical acclaim around the world! While Oppenheimer was expected to have a darker and heavier tone, obviously, Barbie has been surprising audiences by also having a more grounded tone than viewers expected.
Becoming the biggest-ever female solo-directed film, Barbie has amassed over $1.34 billion at the Worldwide Box Office, making the director, Greta Gerwig, the first woman ever to independently helm a billion-dollar movie! Not only are the feminists screaming, but so are movie enthusiasts!
If you’ve already watched it in theaters, you’re probably waiting for it to come out on streaming platforms, or if you’re someone who’d rather just watch it at home, then you need a reliable internet service provider. A good ISP will ensure that your viewing experiences aren’t interrupted due to Wi-Fi lags and bad connection, which is why we recommend Spectrum!
As one of the largest ISPs in the United States, Spectrum is widely available in 41+ states, connecting millions of people. The sign-up process is contract-free, making it easy for anyone to subscribe. Spectrum’s internet plans are also quite budget-friendly and come with great download and upload speeds. You can reach out to its 24/7 customer support team for more information!
All in all, having a reliable ISP is imperative to your viewing experience!
For People Who Haven’t Seen the Film
We’ll be very mindful of any spoilers while discussing the movie in this article, so if you are someone who hasn’t yet had the pleasure of watching this movie, you’re in good hands!
The movie tells a genuine story about the struggles of womanhood and how the much-famed and beloved doll experiences these things for the first time, after stepping out of her perfect world of Barbieland. Barbie’s reason for leaving behind that perfectly pink world, was because she kept having troubling thoughts about cellulite, life in general, identity, and even death. People around her couldn’t fathom why she was dealing with such thoughts, so Barbie decided to venture out into the real world!
For the first time ever, Barbie was introduced to uncomfortable discussions, irrepressible tears, and feelings of immense guilt and pressure. But despite all such struggles, she found solace and comfort in the presence of other women who could relate to all the things she was experiencing. As one of the characters from the movie stated, “It is literally impossible to be a woman!”
We Haven’t Forgotten the Boys
If you’re thinking that this is a film strictly for a female audience, you’d be wrong since Ken in this movie ended up stealing the show!
Ken starts off pretty much with what we know of him – he loves Barbie, likes to wear an open shirt to show off his abs, and is an accessory to the most famous doll in the world. But as the movie goes on, we start to see his layers peel back as Ken begins to question whether Barbie and he are even on the same page.
In a world where Barbie is everything, Ken naturally feels overshadowed and this is explored in a great way within the film’s context. He desperately wants to earn Barbie’s attention and respect but feels that he always falls short when she doesn’t notice him. He goes on his own separate journey to understand what he wants and who he is without his partner. Because, after all, there is no Ken without Barbie, right?
For People Who Have Seen the Film
Barbie isn’t just a visually stunning piece of cinema with flashy colors and pop culture references, but it actually explores complex issues that the majority of people go through. Both men and women will find something to relate to in the film and upon re-watching, it’s just as good!
For people who personally grew up playing with dolls and dressing up Barbie, the movie is filled with iconic outfit designs and easter eggs! And for the ones who didn’t, even they can relate to the emotional struggles that the characters on screen go through. All in all, it’s a great film that deserves to be re-watched!
