Nicholas Pooran’s Power-Hitting And Shardul Thakur’s Fiery Spell Secure LSG’s Victory Over SRH

The 7th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) was a wonderful match played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on March 27, 2025. The match witnessed excellent performances from both teams, and LSG won the match by five wickets.

First Innings: SRH’s Batting Performance

LSG opted to bat after LSG won the toss. SRH’s innings were unstable from the start as two wickets fell in no time for 15 runs. But Travis Head and Nitish Reddy steadied the innings with a vital partnership. Head smashed a brilliant innings of 47 runs off 28 balls, while Reddy scored 32 runs. Their performance provided a strong base for SRH.

In the second half of the innings, fireworks were staged by Aniket Verma with a scorching 36 in 13 balls, and also aided by Pat Cummins’ 18. Even those runs were curtailed by LSG’s Shardul Thakur, who threw a master-class spell. Thakur took four wickets for 34 runs from his four overs and shattered SRH’s batting unit. SRH had scored a battling total of 190/9 from their 20 overs.

Second Innings: LSG’s Chase

Chasing a score of 191, LSG got an early blow as Aiden Markram was dismissed cheaply. But Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh stole the day with a match-winning combination. Pooran was in scintillating form, scoring 70 runs from only 26 balls, including six sixes and six fours. His destructive knock saw him score the fastest fifty of the season in IPL 2025, which was scored in 18 balls.

Marsh was a consistent contributor, scoring 52 runs from 31 balls. The 116-run second-wicket partnership between the two powered LSG’s chase. Even after SRH captain Pat Cummins removed Pooran and Marsh, the damage was already done. Abdul Samad’s late-innings cameo helped LSG cruise past the target in 16.1 overs at 193/5.

Key Performances

  • Shardul Thakur (LSG): His 4/34 earned him the Player of the Match.
  • Nicholas Pooran (LSG): His 70 from 26 balls was the match’s highlight.
  • Mitchell Marsh (LSG): His composed 52 off 31 balls provided some sense of stability to the run-chase.
  • Travis Head (SRH): His 47 off 28 balls provided SRH with a fighting opportunity.

Final Thoughts

LSG’s across-the-board performance, led by Thakur’s bowling and Pooran’s batting, marked a decisive victory. SRH, who started well, couldn’t capitalize on their momentum. The match was a testament to the high-intensity action that IPL fans have come to expect, with everyone eagerly awaiting the next matches of the league.
