Kelly Ronahan got a lot of attention when she posted her story on the internet, but over time, people started to wonder if her situation was real.
At the beginning of 2019, her legs looked like they were fine. But in May 2021, both of them were cut off, which was a big change for her.
The moving story of Kelly Ronahan: Munchausen syndrome or a case of wrong diagnosis?
In 2014, Kelly became famous on Instagram because she had a rare blood disease that required her to get blood donations every week. Even after many blood transfers and a drop in her hemoglobin level, the cause was still unknown.
She got an amazing 95 liters of blood from over 55 donors by March 2016. She kept getting support online, even though her health was getting worse, and she even joined a blood-giving group to urge others.
At times, she said that her illness was caused by multiple sclerosis and ovarian tumors, but there wasn’t much proof to back this up.
In July 2016, Ronahan was hospitalized for seizures, but suspicions arose when doctors found that she was feigning them. Despite revelations, her followers organized blood drives and offered unwavering support throughout 2016.
Kelly’s legs before the onset of her condition (date unknown)
Early in 2017, Kelly faced complications with her port, leading to sepsis. She also said she had problems with eating issues. She said she had hurt herself before she got sick, but the scars didn’t match a timeline from three years ago.
In April 2017, tests showed that her blood level was normal, which made people wonder if her rare illness was real. Kelly, on the other hand, denied these worries by saying that the doctor was working together against her.
By 2018, reports that she was pretending to be sick had spread a lot. In April 2018, her port was taken out because she could no longer receive blood donations.
In 2018, Ronahan’s mysterious leg condition surfaced, marked by swelling, blisters, and unexplained wounds. Her condition worsened as she impulsively picked at the wounds, claiming unbearable pain that doctors refused to address.
By 2019, she received a diagnosis of an autoimmune disease and underwent skin grafts in hopes of improvement. However, Kelly returned to the hospital after aggravating the wounds on her legs.

Multiple experts examined her case, yet none could conclusively diagnose her condition. Over time, Kelly reported a loss of sensation in her legs and ankles.
Eventually, doctors recommended amputation as a last resort, with one of her toes having already fallen off by then.

In May 2021, Kelly underwent a leg amputation in a desperate bid to save her life.
According to the most recent news, no one knows where Kelly is or has been since her surgery. Her social media use has lessened, but she said she was going to get implants and would likely post about her progress.
