The bodybuilding world is grieving the unexpected loss of Jodi Vance, who passed away at just 20 years old due to complications from severe dehydration, her family has confirmed.
In a heartfelt statement shared on Vance’s Instagram account, her loved ones wrote, “For those who haven’t heard, Jodi passed away yesterday afternoon. Her heart stopped due to severe dehydration-related complications. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, she could not be revived.”

Vance was called a “beautiful soul inside and out,” and his family stressed how important it is to put health first, saying, “If there’s anything to take from this, let it be a reminder to always put your well-being first.”
In a video post, her trainer Justin Mihaly gave more information. He said that Jodi Vance had taken “extremely hazardous substances” to improve her body without his knowledge or permission.

“Her health had become increasingly concerning,” Mihaly said. “Many people who loved Jodi urged her to slow down, but her work ethic was unmatched, and she pushed herself relentlessly.
Mihaly also disclosed that medical professionals confirmed she had used a substance he had previously warned her about. He vowed to use his platform to raise awareness and advocate for safer practices in bodybuilding, stating, “We need to have serious conversations about the risks involved in this sport.
When Mihaly thought of Vance, she talked about how kind, smart, and dedicated she was, and how much everyone loved her. As people in the exercise community deal with this terrible loss, many are calling for more information and care about performance-enhancing drugs.
