Taking a Look at the Hamptons Style Kitchen Designs

The Hamptons are a part of the East End of Long Island on the coast of New York. They comprise the towns of Southampton and East Hampton.

The seaside is known to be both home and a getaway to the more affluent of the community.

Their most well-known treasure has been their architectural style, notably the Hamptons Kitchens. A style unique in its simplicity and loved for its aesthetic appeal, let’s learn a bit more about what it really means to be Hampton Style.

Imagine this – a beach-facing bungalow with French doors in the kitchen left open to let the salty coastal breeze in. Lots of space, a kitchen island to sit around with a glass of wine; ah, the perfect evening! Looking around, what are the styles you are most likely to notice? Let’s find out!

Architecture

Pitched ceilings, exposed beams, wood flooring are all part of the Hamptons style architecture. The design is not too cluttery and leaves ample space to move around. Open spaces are a noteworthy feature of this style.

Doors, windows, and drawers are usually framed (shaker style) to make them stand out. This design is popular because of its detailed lining & finish.

Adding coastal accessories like vintage surfboards, fishing equipment, etc. gives a more seaside look and feel to the kitchen. Indoor plants are also a great choice as they can only add to its appeal.

Color

The most simple yet pleasing color of them all; white! It gives the kitchen a brighter look and is hailed for its reflective quality. The preferred color styles for Hamptons kitchens usually have blended tones of white and light blue (duck egg blue).

Since these are coastal designs, other light-toned colors like sky blue, coral green, etc. can also add to the design and give it a seaside touch.

You can also use black to increase contrast and beauty.

Flooring & Lighting

What kind of flooring suits the aesthetic and goes well with white? Yep, light or dark-wooded flooring! Wooden floors are beautiful and contrast perfectly with the colors in the kitchen.

We want to keep the ambiance breezy and perfect for a quiet evening with loved ones, so soft lights are the way to go. Given that most Hampton style kitchens have high ceilings, pendant lights are a great choice. Other choices could be woven cane or metal.

Conclusion

The Hamptons style of architecture emphasizes coastal designs but is now leaning towards elegance and chic. Keeping the basic elements of this architecture in mind, you can tweak it as you please. Interior designers can help you get a better idea of the details.

Whether you are looking to re-design your kitchen or want to understand the style, I’m sure you’ll recognize a Hamptons style kitchen the next time you see one!
