Sinners, which was helmed by Ryan Coogler, delves into love, identity, and family history set against the background of a supernatural story. Hailee Steinfeld stars as Mary, a biracial character who becomes a vampire and navigates the intricate world of the 1930s South. The character has been very close to Steinfeld’s heart as she disclosed that it prompted her to research her own family lineage.
“I had so many incredible dialogues with my mother about her family, and about her father, my half-Black grandfather,” Steinfeld said.
“I wish every day, because of this film, and for so many other reasons, I could call and ask him all the questions.”
The movie has a star-studded cast featuring Michael B. Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku, Delroy Lindo, and Miles Caton, who makes his debut. The actor plays the role of twin brothers, Smoke and Stack, which is quite challenging for him.
The movie has been referred to by Mosaku as “so much more” than a vampire movie, citing its depth and themes.
As Steinfeld’s supporters wait in anticipation for Sinners’ release, her fiancé Allen continues to be in the spotlight. The couple got together in 2024, and their engagement came with tender words and photographs.
