Flash Flooding Hits Dolly Parton’s Dollywood, Prompting Evacuations and Road Closures

According to the National Weather Service, Sevier County experienced “a slow-moving thunderstorm produced very heavy rainfall rates of 1-2 inches in 30 minutes.” This rapid accumulation of water led to the flash flood, causing the Pigeon River, which runs through Dollywood, to overflow its banks.

In a statement, Dollywood acknowledged the incident, saying, “Due to severe weather in the area, Dollywood experienced localized flooding in a few areas of the park. The safety of our guests and employees is our top priority, and we are working to ensure their well-being.” The park remained closed on July 29 for cleanup and repairs, with a reopening date to be determined.

The flooding at Dollywood was part of a broader weather system that caused widespread disruption across the county. Several areas in Sevier County experienced flash flooding, road closures, and property damage. The American Red Cross set up a shelter for those affected by the floods, and local authorities urged residents to exercise caution and be prepared for potential power outages and additional flooding.
